il 29, 2026, at the Sandman Hotel for a Special General Meeting that marked a pivotal moment in the club’s history.
With 97 voting members in attendance, the meeting achieved the highest turnout ever recorded for a General Meeting, signaling strong community engagement and interest in the organization’s future. In accordance with the Society’s Act, notice of the meeting had been issued more than 30 days in advance.
Two major motions were presented and decided during the session. The first motion proposed reducing the size of the Board of Directors from 15 members to 9. The measure received unanimous support from those in attendance and will result in an update to the club’s bylaws.
The second motion focused on the club’s identity, proposing a return to the name “Kelowna United Football Club.” Director of Football Lee Tregonning outlined the rationale behind the change, prompting a detailed and open discussion among members.
As required under the Society’s Act, Board Member Cadre Simpson confirmed that the motion required a two-thirds majority to pass. Voting was conducted by ballot, with Chartered Accountant Todd Myles responsible for counting votes, while Kieran Gray supervised the process to ensure transparency and accuracy.
The final tally showed 82 percent of votes in favor of the name change, securing approval for the motion. The transition from Okanagan United FC to Kelowna United FC will take place over the coming months as the club prepares for the 2026/2027 season.
Officials indicated that further updates will be shared as plans progress and the new identity is implemented. The strong turnout and active participation at the meeting were widely seen as a reflection of the membership’s commitment to shaping the club’s direction moving forward.
